She Restoreth My Soul

The clay form at the top of this sculpture was wood-fired in the groundhog kiln at the Ozark Folk Center in Mountain View, Arkansas, before being combined with the natural rock from the Ozark Mountains and the hand-mixed cement base. Because the top form is clay, protect the work from freeze-thaw cycles. This sculpture with the loving embrace is 12 inches high, 13 wide and 11 deep, and would make an excellent alter piece.

The Perfect Wife

This mobile captures only a few of the many roles the perfect wife is supposed to embrace. No wonder some find such high standards impossible to meet. The piece is about 3 feet long and over 2 feet wide. Some of the fishing gear in the Tiffany bag and on the bait trap are antiques.

Pregnant Snake

Question: Honey, what do you want for Valentine's Day?
Answer: A pregnant snake. . . Don't be caught without! Stock up now!
By removing the covering from this 12 inch long snake of hyper-tufa, the small striped snake of black and white wood becomes visible.

Snake Woman Stretching

Snake Woman Stretching is a clay sculpture with a high gloss black glaze which stands about 8 inches high and is 8 inches across. This sleek, elegant piece has a strong contemporary look. If desired, candles could be placed in the upper and lower indentations.

Twin Snakes

Twin Snakes is about 7 inches tall and 7 inches around. It is made from glazed clay.

Snake Circle

Snake Circle is a glazed clay piece 3 inches high and 4 1/2 inches around. It's soft colors and the simple lines speak of an elegant, primitive beauty. Snake Circle can be displayed with or without a thin candle.

Palm Godess

Palm Godess is 3 inches high and 2 inches across. This small piece of fired clay evokes a feeling of primitive spirituality. The snake in her lap can serve as a holder for a thin candle.

Super Man Thinking

Super Man Thinking is a contemporary piece which placed in an art center competition. The mixed media work includes a hand-made torso of clay (7 inches high, 5 1/2 inches wide and 7 inches deep) on a foot-square manufactured tile which is attached to a revolving Lazy Susan. The sculpture is a paradoxical joke ridiculing the impossibility of the strictly rational stance of trying to "think ourselves through life" as our sole means of salvation.

Want Fries With That?

Want Fries With That? is a mixed media sculpture of primarily clay which stands about 8 inches tall. It is an interactive piece, as the clay torso can actually serve as a message board by adding or subtracting the plastic bag of french fries. When the household or office is running smoothly, the fries can be left near the bottom of the piece or tucked away in a drawer. When far too many demands start piling up, the fries can be placed in the tray on the figures's shoulders, to give a visual warning (not unlike the disturbing sound of a rattlesnake) to back off.

Sheltered

Sheltered stands 5 inches tall, 4 wide and 3 deep: it is made of clay which has been smoked by adding newspapers to the kiln while firing.

Mirrored Lady

Mirrored Lady is a sculpture of fired clay 3 inches high and 3 inches wide that rests of a beveled mirror. Classical in design, she could could fill a small space perfectly.

Rock Covers Hole

Rock Covers Hole is a mixed media piece 8 inches long, 5 deep and 6 high. A hand-built clay figure, glazed and then covered with sea glass, is attached to a metal tray. The Arkansas stone in the figure's hollow can be removed to reveal a hole to the metal tray. This sculpture could be displayed as is, or it could safely hold a candle in the hollow.

Family Secrets

In this piece, a white plaster mask (of me) is supported by a metal stand in the rear of a 12-inch black wooden cube.
