A sculpture by local artist Lee Cowan of Fox received an "Honorable Mention" award Saturday, August 14, at The Ozark Heritage Art Center's August Competition (formerly known as the "No-Name Artist Competition").
The winning work, a contemporary piece called "Snake Sky", is a Stone ScapeŠ set in concrete which features a genuine snake skin Cowan found on her land. The sculpture is displayed on a custom metal stand created by Dallas Nichols of Iron Mountain Forge in Mountain View.
The exhibition at the Ozark Heritage Art Center and Museum in Leslie is free and open to the public. You may call the Center at 870-447-2500 for details, or email Director Kari Balcom at ohac@bulldog.afsc.k12.ar.us .
"Snake Sky" can be seen at Cowan's web site, www.StoneCountyArt.com , under the "Stone ScapeŠ" button. Her work can also be seen at the Arkansas Craft Guild in Mountain View, The Chroma Gallery in Little Rock, and The Old Carriage House in Jasper. She will also once again be participating in the Off the Beaten Path Open Studio Tours around Mountain View September 17-19.
