The Ozark Heritage Art Center and Museum in Leslie (Searcy County) will feature sculptures, paintings and outdoor furniture by Lee Cowan of Stone County Art today through Saturday, July 30. The gallery is open from 1 to 6 p.m., Thursday through Saturday, and there is no admission charge.
A free reception, open to the public, for this artist's first one-woman show is scheduled from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday.
Cowan lives outside Fox in Stone County. Her work, some of which can be seen at www.StoneCountyArt.com , has won various recognitions and awards, and is available for sale in numerous galleries statewide, including the Clinton Presidential Museum Store in Little Rock. She has been a member of the juried Arkansas Craft Guild since 2001.
From Friday, Sept. 16 through Sunday, Sept. 18, Cowan will join other artists around Mountain View in the Off the Beaten Path Open Studio Tours; visit the Web site www.offthebeatenpathstudiotour.com ,for more information. On Saturday, September 24 and Sunday, September 25, she will teach a workshop on "Garden Sculpture" at the Ozark Folk Center in Mountain View; visit the Web site, www.ozarkfolkcenter.com, for more information.
Cowan's strong belief in the democratization and de-mystification of art is stressed in her artist's statement, which will be available at no cost during the month long show. In this statement, Cowan briefly traces her own late entrance into the art world, and encourages others to explore and share their own creativity.
